Dr. Becky wellman, PhD, LPMT, MT-BC
Dr. Wellman is a nationally board certified/licensed music therapist and developmental specialist. She holds a Bachelor of Arts from Hiram College in Music History and Theory as well as Oboe Performance. She has a Master of Music in Music Therapy from Ohio University. Dr. Wellman completed her clinical training at the Central Wisconsin Center for the Developmentally Disabled with a sub-internship at Mendota Mental Health in their gero-psychiatric unit. She earned a PhD in Educational Psychology with an emphasis in lifespan development from Capella University.
Dr. Wellman's experience includes gero-psychiatry, medical rehabilitation, oncology, older adults, drug and alcohol rehabilitation, acute in-patient behavioral, veterans/PTSD, early intervention, early childhood, school age children, and children and adults with special needs. She is a neurologic music therapist using brain research and specific protocols to assist those with motor and language concerns, a member of the Music 4 Life® Music Medicine Pratcitioner Network using Mood Sequence Formulas™ to help clients work through "stuck" emotional patterns to find increased energy and peace of mind, and a trained REMO® HealthRHYTHMS facilitator using a specific drumming protocol to help increase wellness, team building skills, and fun!
Dr. Wellman is an established presenter in areas of intergenerational music therapy, inclusion, including siblings in the therapy experience, music to promote reading skills, developmental approaches to music therapy, music therapy ethics, co-treatment with music therapy, and understanding children with special needs in other education or professional situations. She is an adjunct professor at Ivy Tech Community College where she teaches online distance learning gerontology specialization courses and hybrid human service core courses and at Indiana Univeristy Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) where she teaches graduate and undergraduate level music therapy courses. Dr. Wellman has been active in both national and state music therapy associations as the chairperson of the Illinois State Music Therapy Recognition Task Force and Government Relations Committee. She was the local chairperson for the American Music Therapy Association's national conference in St. Charles, Illinois in October 2012. She was the music therapy blogger for the Early Childhood Music and Movement Association.
Dr. Wellman is an Independent Reiki Master Teacher and an independent distributor with Young Living Essential Oils.
Dr. Wellman is a member of the American Music Therapy Association and World Federation of Music Therapy.
